nostalgia [announcement] [september 18th, 7:30pm]

The first VIBES concert (Tuesday, September 18th) carries the theme of "Nostalgia", and will take place in room 309c of the Conservatory building. Linked below is our poster for the event!

Nostalgia is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as "a sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past". For the VIBES staff, the very idea of Nostalgia reminds us of cartoons and videogames that we played when we were very young.

Linked here you can see the suggested materials for this date. It consists of retro videogame soundfonts and royalty free Hanna Barbara cartoon sound effects. This is how we chose to interpret the idea of "Nostalgia", but any interpretation of "Nostalgia" or these materials is encouraged, and all pieces are welcome for submission! There will also be a short reception following.

This is our first concert and we are so excited to collaborate with other Peabody students in a venue that inspires freedom on our composition. If you are interested in being involved, please contact the VIBES staff at VIBESpeabody@gmail.com. If you are interested in having your composition showcased, please contact VIBES by Tuesday, September 4th (the same date as our Reception!)  Every event is free and we hope to see you there. It's going to get loud! :)

VIBES announcement and schedule!

Announcing VIBES, a new Peabody student-run monthly concert series! Run by a staff of Peabody Computer Music students, VIBES aims to provide a unique experience every event with themed concerts with suggested materials for composers to draw from.

All Peabody students interested in having their compositions performed or showcased may submit their work to VIBESpeabody@gmail.com. The submission deadline for each individual concert is 2 weeks before the event proper. Compositions do not necessarily need to conform wholly to that concert's theme, but the theme may influence where the piece is performed in the program. Submitted pieces may be in a proof of concept form and must be finished 1 week before the recital for the purposes of planning.

Each concert will be directed by a "Concertmaster", who contributes to that concert's suggested material and program. In addition, the Concertmaster will MC the event and be responsible for how the music is presented to the public; we expect to have concerts that range from a more "traditional" recital format to those that have a more casual atmosphere. The Concertmaster is a paid position, and while each Concertmaster only carries responsibilities related to their assigned date, those responsibilities are vital to that concert's success. Prospective VIBES concertmasters may contact VIBESpeabody@gmail.com to apply.

VIBES concerts are free concerts and will last from approximately 30 to 60 minutes, with a reception to follow. They take place one Tuesday night a month at 7:30pm in room 309c of the conservatory building. Below is the schedule for the 2017-2018 school year, complete with theming. We look forward to a successful, enriching year of innovation and collaboration.
